The short version
LoupeEdit edits, transcribes and exports on your computer. Claude gets text about your project and small preview frames, through your own Claude Code session. Never your video or audio files.
No account in the app, no analytics, no crash reporter, no tracking. The rest of this page is what does leave your computer, and why.
On your computer
Editing, renders and exports run on your computer. So do the optional add-ons: speech to text, who speaks, sound names, remove music and person cutout. Your sound and pictures never leave your computer. The add-ons are downloaded only when you click install, from Hugging Face and LoupeEdit's releases on GitHub.
On Windows, some add-ons run on your graphics card through Microsoft's DirectML. Its licence says: "Data Collection. The software may collect information about you and your use of the software, and send that to Microsoft. Microsoft may use this information to provide services and improve our products and services. You may opt-out of many of these scenarios, but not all, as described in the product documentation."
What Claude gets
Claude works through your own Claude Code session, so what it reads goes to Anthropic under your Claude account and Anthropic's privacy policy. From LoupeEdit it gets:
- Text about your project: the timeline, file names and media details, the sound and picture lists (camera moves, motion, beats, sound names), and your notes to Claude. With the speech add-on, the transcript and who speaks.
- Small preview frames: at most one small JPEG per request.
- Never your video or audio files.
Claude Code also has its own file tools, separate from LoupeEdit, and can read files in the folders you open it in, within the permissions you give it. That part is Claude Code's, under Anthropic's terms.
Your licence
To know your plan (the trial, Free or Pro), LoupeEdit talks to our licence server, on Cloudflare: at the first start, at each start and once a day while it's open, and when you use Help › LoupeEdit Pro….
- It sends a code made from your computer's ID (a one-way, salted hash: never the ID itself, the computer's name, your name or your files), LoupeEdit's version, Windows or Mac, and your licence key when you activate, remove or manage it.
- It keeps the key (encrypted), its plan and dates, Stripe's ids for the order, and the computers it is on (that code, the system, when it was last seen). For the trial, it keeps your computer's code and the trial's dates.
- It doesn't keep your email, your name or your IP address. Cloudflare sees your IP address, as any website does, and uses it to limit too many requests from one place.
- It never gets your projects or media.
Buying Pro
Stripe sells Pro as the merchant of record, through Link. Your card, email, billing details and country go to Stripe, under Stripe's and Link's privacy policies. We can see your order in Stripe: your email, country and what you bought. We never see your card.
Your key by email: we send it through Resend (in the EU), so Resend gets your email address and the key, only to deliver that email.
Other traffic
- Updates: a few seconds after LoupeEdit starts, and when you choose Help › Check for updates, LoupeEdit checks its releases on GitHub, which sees your IP address. On Windows the update downloads from there.
- Downloads: the download buttons on this site send you to the installer on GitHub, which sees your IP address.
- Bug reports and ideas, what goes: Help › Report a bug… and Suggest a feature… send only what the form lists before you press Send. That is your text, your email if you give one, LoupeEdit's version, your plan (never the key) and the code made from your computer's ID. With a bug, also your system (Windows or macOS version, CPU, memory, graphics card, add-ons) and, if you leave them ticked, the last day's errors with your files' paths taken out. When Claude reports for you, it shows you the same lines first and sends only after you say so.
- What never goes: your media, projects or transcripts.
- Where it goes: our licence server deletes a report after 30 days. It passes the report to us by email (through Resend) and to our private Discord channel (without your email). The emailed copy stays in our inbox while it helps us fix the bug or answer you, and the Discord post stays in our private channel. Write to us to have yours deleted.
- AudioShake (an optional cloud service) is not in this version.
This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts; the fonts are served from here. The waitlist keeps your email, and your platform and what you cut if you choose them, in Cloudflare. Your email also goes to Resend, which sends a short confirmation and, later, our two emails: when the beta opens and when Founder opens. Each of those has an unsubscribe link. Your IP address is kept only as a salted hash, against spam. The Pro page asks our licence server how many Founder places are left, and sends nothing about you.
Checkout happens on Stripe's own pages, with Stripe's cookies.
Why, and where it goes
Why we use what we keep:
- Your licence, the trial and Pro: to give you what you signed up for or paid for (our contract with you).
- Payments and receipts: the contract, and the tax records the law asks Stripe to keep.
- Bug reports and ideas: you choose to send them (your consent). Ask us and we delete yours.
- The waitlist: your consent. Leave any time.
- Limits against spam and abuse (the hashed IP address, too many requests from one place): our legitimate interest in keeping the services working.
Some of the services we use are US companies: Cloudflare (this site, the licence server, the waitlist), Stripe (payments), GitHub (downloads and updates), Discord (where bug reports reach us) and Hugging Face (add-on downloads). What they handle can be stored outside the EU, under the safeguards EU law asks for, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the EU's standard contractual clauses. Resend, which sends our emails, is in the EU. What Claude reads goes to Anthropic under your own agreement with Anthropic.
Your rights
Responsible for your data: Dumitru Alin-Marian (Max), in Romania. "We" on this page means him. Write to hello@loupeedit.com to see, correct or delete what we hold about you, or to leave the waitlist. For payment data, ask Stripe: it is the merchant. You can also complain to a data protection authority; in Romania that is ANSPDCP (dataprotection.ro).
